Niyi Akinnaso, BOSS Staffers Inspect Airport Project
Ede – Prof. Niyi Akinnaso together with a team from BOSS inspected work activities at the on-going N4.5 billion Ido – Osun airport project in Ede, State of Osun. The Professor of anthropology and education who is also a respected columnist in Nigeria was on an independent assessment mission to the airport project to record the extent of work executed by Contractor – Aeronautical Engineering & Technical Services. BOSS was fulfilling its mandate of monitoring and evaluation of all projects, programs and policies of the state government.
After a thorough interaction with the Project Engineer on site, the team moved around and saw on-going work at the control tower, the fire station, the runway, and the drainage system. According to the Professor who had earlier visited in December 2013, he was impressed with the level of work done in the first quarter of 2014. Quoting him, “In three months, they’ve made reasonable progress. The last time I was here, the control tower had not started, and the level of filling was low. I’ll estimate they’ve recorded about 30% progress in total since the last time I was here”.
BOSS observed that work was on – going on the fire station and control tower with block work already above lintel level. The construction of the runway formation level has advanced to Chainage 0+875 while over 900 metres of concrete drainage has been put in place for the runway and more precast units are being produced on site. V-Channels for CGA to control and safely discharge storm water runoff were also on site. The company assured the visiting team that the project will be delivered by end of August, 2014 if cash flow remains positive and the weather is favourable.
The team also went to Baptist High School Iwo, the school which generated much controversy recently. It was observed that the school is running smoothly and peacefully. BOSS noticed that efforts are being made to reconstitute the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in the school.
